Online Retail Analysis with Power BI: Driving Decisions Through Real-Time Insights

The client is a global e-commerce retailer operating across multiple countries and serving a diverse customer base. With sales spread across regions, the leadership team needed a unified reporting system that could bring together fragmented data and provide real-time insights into revenue and performance. For confidentiality reasons, the company name has been withheld.
Problem
Although the client had access to sales data, it was siloed across different sources, making reporting inconsistent and slow. Leadership struggled to monitor revenue and sales trends dynamically, lacked clarity on country-level performance, and did not have quick visual access to key business metrics. These limitations hindered their ability to identify growth opportunities and slowed down decision-making processes at the executive level.

Goal
The project aimed to consolidate global sales data into a single, interactive Power BI dashboard. The solution needed to provide leadership with real-time KPIs and visual insights, enable seamless monitoring of geographical performance, and allow for easy analysis of monthly revenue and sales trends. By centralizing the data, the dashboard was expected to improve efficiency and support faster, data-driven decision-making.
Results
The Online Retail Analysis Dashboard provided the client with a powerful platform to track and analyze global sales performance. Executives could view revenue and total sales at a glance, with KPIs showing $9.52M in revenue and 5.44M in sales. Geographical insights were delivered through an interactive world map, enabling country-wise performance analysis. The dashboard also highlighted the top five and bottom five markets, giving leadership clear visibility into areas of strength and weakness. Monthly revenue and sales trends were visualized through line charts, making it easier to track performance over time. Additionally, automated data refreshes reduced manual reporting efforts by 50%, significantly improving efficiency.
Phase 2: Visual Concept Design
In this stage, we focused entirely on creating a Tableau dashboard prototype based on mock/test data. Key activities included:
- Designing key visual elements—charts, KPI cards, filters, and layout blocks
- Applying the brand’s updated color palette, typography, and visual patterns
- Iteratively refining the prototype based on client feedback
The final deliverable was a visually modern and UX-optimized Tableau dashboard aligned with the new brand identity. It featured:
